Emily's Blog

Hellloooo Emily, Scout Patrol Leader @ 1st Burnmoor, here I am writing to let you know that I have applied for a place at the 2023 World Jamboree in South Korea. I couldn't let this opportunity pass me by and after going along to the meeting and I was giving all the information and watched the video I couldn't wait to apply.

I had to complete an application form and explain the reasons why I wanted to go. I then attended a selection day at Moor House Durham were I joined other candidates. We were put into patrols and took part in various tasks throughout the day these included cooking challenges, team building, created a dance in the theme of K-pop, a hike and many many more fun things. I also met lots of nice people from other scout groups around the area.

I wanted to travel to South Korea because I am interested in learning more about the country and I love the idea of meeting and talking to people from all around the world. Plus I hope to bring back and share things I have learnt that will help me in the future and to share my experiences with everyone at 1st Burnmoor.

I'll find out if I am successful on 13th December however if I don't get through I have had a great experience anyway.

12/12/21 Tree Planting

Had a mint day today. I volunteer with a few of the other candidates to plant some trees. The weather was a lot warmer than the selection day and armed with a spade and wellies we headed out to different locations around Moor House. We continued the work done by the friends of Moor House planting around 160 to 200 trees of different species. Again met some great people of  different ages and we did some great team work.
Starting to get a little nervous for tomorrow it's results day and I'll find out if I have been selected for the 2023 Jamboree. I've tried my best what will be will be!!

13/12/21 Selection Results

Hi everyone well unfortunately I didn't get a place for 2023 Jamboree but that's OK. I tried my best and couldn't do anymore. There was just so many of us to choose from. Can I just say please don't put off applying in the future I had a fantastic selection day and the tree planting day was pretty cool but I would of been more upset with myself if I hadn't tried. Thank you for wishing me well and Merry Christmas everyone!

The World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills.
